The wireless photogate features two light barriers arranged side by side, which detect objects passing between their arms. It can be used for time measurements with a single light barrier and for speed measurements using both light barriers. When used in conjunction with a Smart Pulley, it also supports position measurements. Furthermore, several photogates can be connected in series, enabling sequential measurements across up to five photogates.
The photogate is switched on and off using the on/off switch. It features a colour OLED display that shows sensor information, measured values and the selected mode, allowing it to be used as a stand-alone measuring device. Press the button to switch it on, and hold it down for about 5 seconds to switch it off.
The sensor can be used wirelessly via Bluetooth or via a USB cable with the ‘Coach 7’ or ‘Coach 7 Lite’ programmes/apps on computers (Windows and Mac), Chromebooks and mobile devices (Android and iOS).
Technical specifications:
• Measuring ranges: Digital: 0 (blocked gate) and 1 (unblocked gate) - used to measure time, distance and velocity
• Detector rise/fall time: 2.5 μs / 3.8 μs
• Pulley details: Diameter: 0.067 m (0.064 m in the groove), Circumference: 0.21 m (0.20 m in the groove), Spokes: 10
• OLED display: 0.96” 128 x 64px
• Battery life: 6h when full (rechargeable)

The wireless photogate can be used for a wide variety of physics experiments:
• Measuring the acceleration due to gravity (use a transparent piece of plastic with stripes at regular intervals, which can be allowed to fall through the photogate)
• Motion measurements using a Smart Pulley
• Measuring the speed and acceleration of moving objects
• Measuring time intervals of moving objects
• Measuring the period of a simple pendulum
• Studying rotational motion and its period
